In the opening episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, a startling development occurs at the conclusion. Prince Jaehaerys falls victim to the assassins Blood and Cheese, who are contracted by Daemon using Mysaria’s help. And King Aegon II has lost whatever sense of humanity he had in him after his son’s death.
Jaehaerys proved Aegon was capable of loving
Aegon was a pitiful character from the beginning of House of the Dragon. However, we see a change in him when his son Jaehaerys is a bit grown up. We see him giving his son more preference to the Green Council itself. In an interview with Inverse, Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays the Aegon, said:

“It’s easy when you play a character like [Aegon] to be cold and calculated and pretty numb to it all. But I thought that the more interesting decision there was to show he’s capable of loving and his son was a creation of his. It was something he’d made and he was something he was proud of, and he saw a lot of himself in his son.”
Blood and Cheese snatch away Aegon’s chance of being a good king
Jaehaerys had motivated Aegon to be a role model for him, which is why we see the young king try to be generous towards the citizens. Now that his son is dead, Aegon throws away all the goodness in him, replacing it with anger and revenge. Glynn-Carney added:
“He could almost start again through Jahaerys, he could build the person that he wanted to be and never got a chance to be, and that’s been snatched away from him.”
