Harry Collett, the actor behind Jacaerys Velaryon in House of the Dragon, is spilling the beans on his dramatic transformation for Season 2. Say goodbye to the wig and hello to his natural locks. Harry Collett reveals how he’s growing out his hair to play Jace, and the surprising inspiration behind the change – a certain King in the North, Jon Snow. Let’s find out what’s in store for Jace’s new look and how it might change the game in the battle for the Iron Throne.
Harry Collett Ditches Wig for Season 2 of House of the Dragon
Harry Collett’s return to House of the Dragon for Season 2 brought more screen time and a fresh look. Gone is the mulleted mop top wig of Season 1. He is rocking his locks as Jacaerys Velaryon, aka Jace. But it wasn’t easy getting there, Harry Collett revealed to Variety that he had to grow out his hair for a year and a half, enduring a “One Direction-Harry Styles” phase, complete with a lengthy mane that required seven shampoos.
“This hair care is all new to me; I’ve never done it before. So I was really hoping for them to actually stick to their word, and use it. They cut the majority of it off, which I was really happy about because that in the summer was just dreadful.”
Similarities between Jon Snow and Jacaerys Velaryon
Collett revealed the hair care struggles he faced while growing out his locks, and how the hair and makeup team used Jon Snow as inspiration for his character’s look. But the similarities between Jace and Jon Snow go beyond just hair – both characters share a complex heritage as bastards born of royal blood. Collett continued:
“And Ros, who is in the hair and makeup team, put together a mood board to show to Ryan to pitch it to him. And it was just loads of Jon Snow pictures, which I thought was really cool, because I think they were trying to make me look like Jon Snow when I was on the Wall, which I think is really, really cool.”
