Sophie Turner is trading in her Game of Thrones gown for a life of crime in 1980s London. She’s playing Joan, a single mom who steals diamonds to make ends meet. But as Sophie gets deeper into the role, she opens up about her life – the highs and lows of fame, the power of friendship, and the challenges of being a mom.

Nothing would be as good as Game of Thrones

After Game of Thrones ended in 2019, Turner felt pressure and expectation for her following projects. She reveals that nothing she did next would be as good as her iconic role as Sansa Stark. This pressure led her to take a step back and reassess her career, but now she feels liberated from that pressure and is excited to take on new roles, like her latest project, Joan, where she plays a diamond thief and single mother. Sophie Turner, in an interview with The Times, said,

“Game of Thrones was such a big show that I felt like nothing I did next was going to be as good,” she says. “I went away for a little bit, so now I feel like I don’t have that pressure on me of everyone going, ‘What is she going to do next?’”

Friendship with Maisie Williams is a lifesaver

Sophie Turner credits her friendship with Maisie Williams, her Game of Thrones co-star and on-screen sister, as crucial to her well-being. She jokingly states that she’d likely be in a dire situation without Maisie Williams’ support. This highlights the depth of their friendship and the importance of having a supportive network, especially during challenging times.

She has been open about her struggles with depression and an eating disorder, and it’s clear that Maisie Williams’ presence in her life has made a significant positive impact.

“Without her, I don’t know where I’d be. In a crack den somewhere,” she jokes.
