At the ATX TV Festival, House of the Dragon stars shared candid reflections on their experiences filming the series. Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon, admitted he wished his character had been present during one of season 1’s most explosive moments. Meanwhile, newcomer Abubakar Salim (Alyn of Hull) described the surreal experience of watching season 2 unfold, even after knowing the broad strokes of the story.
Quick read
- Toussaint wanted Corlys to witness Vaemond’s death scene.
- He felt missing the moment was a lost opportunity.
- Salim said season 2 felt surprising despite knowing the plot.
Toussaint on Corlys missing Vaemond’s death
Toussaint explained his regret over not being in the scene where Vaemond Velaryon confronted Rhaenyra and called her children bastards: “The scene where my brother calls Rhaenyra’s kids bastards…I wish I had been in that scene!” Vaemond’s defiance led to his brutal death at the hands of Daemon Targaryen, a pivotal moment in season 1. Toussaint’s comments suggest he wanted Corlys to react directly to his brother’s downfall, adding another layer of family tension to the Velaryon storyline.

Salim on season 2 surprises
Abubakar Salim, who joins the cast as Alyn of Hull, shared how watching season 2 was both familiar and unexpected: “Season 2 I was just on the docks…in my head that’s what House of the Dragon was. It’s a really cool experience to know what’s going to happen…but still be surprised.” His words highlight how even actors immersed in the production can be caught off guard by the final edit, underscoring the scale and unpredictability of the show’s storytelling.
