- Aegon is also behind Aemond
Aegon’s main objective: Regaining the throne
Talking to People magazine, Glynn-Carney made it clear that Aegon’s focus hasn’t wavered.
“Aegon’s objective, still, is regaining the Iron Throne, and regaining power, getting what is rightfully his.”
This drive keeps Aegon motivated despite his physical and emotional scars from the war. For him, the throne represents more than power; it is his birthright, and losing it has only strengthened his resolve.

The complex dynamic with Rhaenyra and Aemond
Glynn-Carney highlighted the complicated relationships influencing Aegon.
“There’s an interesting dynamic there, with the feelings that he has towards Rhaenyra and the feelings that he has towards Aemond, and they’re both kind of vying for the top spot. Aemond feels more like a pressing matter.”
While Rhaenyra remains the primary rival for the throne, Aegon sees his brother as a more immediate and personal danger.
Aemond as the urgent threat
The actor pointed to Aemond’s dragon attack at Rook’s Rest as a turning point.
“Aemond’s attack on his brother was definitely a catalytic moment in his trajectory. Aemond is the more urgent issue at the moment, going forward, because he’s the one actually making waves to try and find Aegon and do him some damage, and it’s whoever gets to the other person first.”
This internal Green family conflict adds tension to Season 3. Aegon must navigate threats from both outside (Rhaenyra’s forces) and inside (his ambitious brother), making his quest to reclaim the throne even more precarious. These comments give fans a clearer picture of Aegon’s mindset as he currently navigates escape with Larys Strong.
