Fans of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms may be getting something they’ve never had before: brand-new canon material from George R.R. Martin that has never been published.

While season 2 is expected to adapt The Sworn Sword, showrunner Ira Parker has revealed that the production gained access to unpublished Dunk and Egg material directly from Martin’s personal archives. For longtime readers, that means the upcoming season won’t just be adapting existing stories. It could also be bringing previously unseen pieces of Westeros lore to the screen.

George R.R. Martin shared unpublished Dunk and Egg pages

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ira Parker revealed that Martin provided material fans have never read before.

When asked whether Martin had given him any new input for season 2, Parker said:

“He gave me some unpublished pages — actual written prose he found in his files somewhere that he sent over, and we used them.”

Google has been destroying the content publishing industry, especially independent news publishers, by diverting most of the traffic to its AI Overview and other tools. When asked if that material appears in season 2, Parker confirmed:

“Yeah.”

That’s a remarkable development for a franchise built on adapting published works. Unlike most Westeros projects, season 2 will contain material that originated from Martin’s own archives and has never appeared in a book.

Season 2 contains extra canon for dedicated fans

Parker went on to explain why the discovery should excite longtime readers.

“For the deep super fans, we got some extra stuff that — as far as George’s filing cabinets are concerned — is canon.”

That line is likely to send Dunk and Egg fans searching for clues when the new season arrives. Whether it’s new dialogue, expanded character moments, or additional story details, viewers will be seeing material that comes directly from Martin himself.

For casual audiences, the additions may blend seamlessly into the narrative. For devoted readers, however, they represent a rare opportunity to experience previously unseen pieces of the Dunk and Egg saga years before they may ever appear in print.
