Michael McElhatton confirms his Slow Horses role

Speaking to The Sunday Times Ireland, McElhatton revealed that he is part of Slow Horses season 8, which is currently filming in London and Oxford.

Season 8 will adapt Clown Town, the ninth novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House series. Apple TV+ officially announced the renewal in September 2026 and confirmed that the new season will consist of six episodes.

According to Apple’s official synopsis:

“Season eight sees Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet. When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all.”

McElhatton also sparked discussion when he suggested the series could be approaching its endpoint.

“It’s a fantastic show, but it’s had its time, too.”

However, Apple TV+ has not confirmed whether season 8 will be the final season.

Slow Horses already has strong Thrones connections

McElhatton isn’t the first actor from the Westeros universe to join Slow Horses.

The series already stars Kristin Scott Thomas, who played Lady Rhea Royce in House of the Dragon, as the formidable Diana Taverner.

Another notable connection is Olivia Cooke, who portrays Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon. Cooke previously appeared in Slow Horses, giving the Apple TV+ drama a growing roster of actors with ties to George R.R. Martin’s world.

As for when fans can expect to see McElhatton’s debut, Apple has not announced an official premiere date. Season 7 has already completed filming, while season 8 is currently in production. Industry reports suggest season 8 will likely arrive in 2028, following season 7’s release.

For now, though, the prospect of Roose Bolton entering the chaotic world of Slough House is more than enough to get both Westeros and spy-thriller fans excited.
