Edit: God damn 200k views! Many thanks yaw!
I personally want to thank the people at HBO for rendering this memorable scene with near-perfect detail. In this scene, Arya Stark begins her combat training with Syrio Forel, a master fencer, hailing from one of the most powerful of the Nine Free Cities (states that are independent from the mainland of Westeros).
All rights reserved to HBO. This is only a promo clip of sorts, taken from the third episode of the first season belonging to the “A Song of Ice and Fire” HBO series.
But, nevertheless, great great direction. I guess GRRM is crying tears of joy right now….I know I am.

Ah when the series used to be good.
I remember buying the whole soundtrack after hearing this scene, the title "the pointy end" is just amazing and grand to listen to and how it arcs round and builds when Neds face changes to one of serious deep in a flashback just gives me the goosebumps, they couldn't have landed anyone better than Ramon Djawadi to pull off such a perfect and grand score, I went on to buy every GOT soundtrack !!! Amazing stuff 👍🏻
"You only need one hand." Nice call ahead to Jaime, who can't adjust to his left.
Syrio would be proud when he sees Arya's water dance with Brienne
What is the name of the song inside the video ?
tony stark teaches arya stark
o namy of song???????
I didn't notice it the first time, but re-watching this episode I picked up on Ned watching Arya. He finds it amusing at first, then looks troubled. The sounds of battle are heard. It's certainly foreshadowing, but I wonder. Is he remembering fights of the past, or dreading fights yet to come.
When Ned started to hear swords clashing instead of wood was he remembering Robert's Rebelion?
Riven main.
why did Ned go from smiling to all serious? Was he like:
"What the fuck is this greasy shitskin teaching to my daughter?!"
A Master need a sword from wood…. Das tapfere Schneidereien… A needle like Charles Buckowskis FOCK machine for the WITCH Learning from the cats
nam flash back made this scene 100 times better
Oh Ned 😢 why you gotta walk in like that, all alive and such 😭
The actor who plays Syrio Forell actually teaches people how to water dance at conventions. It must be awesome to be a part of that.
Man… Season 1 feels almost Disney-esque in comparison to season 6 :/
Chills! My favorite scenes in the show are these. I only wish there were more of them
Name of the soundtrack anyone please
Still one of the best scenes so far.
3:23 Ned Stark has Vietnam flashbacks.
3:17 "It has a name, does it?" Her father sighed. "Ah, Arya. You have a wildness in you, child. 'The wolf blood,' my father used to call it. Lyanna had a touch of it, and my brother Brandon more than a touch. It brought them both to an early grave." Arya heard sadness in his voice; he did not often speak of his father, or of the brother and sister who had died before she was born. "Lyanna might have carried a sword, if my lord father had allowed it. You remind me of her sometimes. You even look like her."
it's-a me!!! Syyyriooo!!!
3:00 Wrong hand, Maisie, you're supposed to be left-handed. 🙂
isnt this rivens dance in league of legends?
He remind me of mario
Pretty much the ultimate foreshadowing of the next 4 Seasons.
Dead
Dead

She is turning into kinda like Luke Skywalker. IDK but from the books it looks like it. Get's blinded to use all of her other senses including the mind, then SPOILER…………………………SPOILER………………………….SPOILER………………………..SPOILER……………………….SPOILER………………………….SPOILER……………………….. She gets her sight back a lot more enlightend
They have such wonderful chemistry together. Truly a joy to watch.
When I was 17 I had an innovative smart idea. I replaced the fundamental civilizations of Four Nations of Avatar: The Last Airbender with Western Renaissance civilizations(I tried to not be anachronistic because it's displeasing, moronic and pathetic).
The Italian Renaissance civilization were the Firebenders and the "Firebending" was the Italian School of Swordmanship, the Spanish Renaissance civilization were the Airbenders and the "Airbending" was the Spanish School of Swordmanship(moving from different approaches in Destreza is like Aang's Airbending philosophy), the Earthebenders were the German Renaissance civilization and their "Earthbending" was the German School of Swordmanship(sturdy and of good balance) and finally the "Waterbenders" were the Danish-Norwegians during Renaissancw that live in the North stepping on ice and their "Waterbending" were the Danish-Norwegians martial arts of that period.
I did the same with the ancient period of Western history before Middle Ages during Roman Empire where Roman Empire was the Fire Nation, ancient Greeks the Earth Kingdom(it's fitting), the Germanic tribes the Water Tribe and the Celtic tribes the Airbenders(fitting too).
The "Water Dance" here clearly has some strong influences from A:TLA's "Dragon Dance" that Zuko and Aang learnt from The Sun Warriors. The music also is A:TLA-ish too.
This is why Ned Stark was the best father of them all. He was a man who trained his daughter in combat because she wanted to. He could have been like Tywin and stifle her interests. Instead he encouraged them. These lessons have helped her a lot.
What style of actual real world swordsmanship is this?
I've watch this clip a dozen times, and could watch it a dozen more.
I've watch this clip a dozen times, and could watch it a dozen more.
This is still one my most favorite scenes from got. It was just made perfectly. I don't think it could have been anymore perfect still get chills seeing this scene.
Fun Fact: "The Water Dance" is used as a /dance for the champion Riven in League Of Legends. 🙂
Its rivens q 3 times
I love Ayra and would like to see her do some sword fighting in seaspn 5.
Which episode is this scene in? I keep trying to find it.
Riven's danse ^_^
What is the background music called in this scene?
"Empty your mind. Be formless. Shapeless. Like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, you put it into a teapot it BECOMES the teapot. Now water can flow . . . . . or it can crash…. Be water, my friend."

Can anyone tell why Ned looked so serious at the end ?
The ending to this scene is so powerful.
