Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings are connected in a lot of ways. They’re both hugely popular fantasy series, they’ve both had a lot of influence on other creators, and the soundtracks for the movie/TV adaptations are absolute bangers. Who can forget Howard Shore’s sweeping score for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films back in the 2000s…
…or Ramin Djawadi’s wonderfully rich, varied score for Game of Thrones?
This June, fans (in a certain part of the world) will get to hear these two scores played back to back by a “huge orchestra” in a celebration of both series. “They are the most beloved and recognizable big and small screen creations of all time,” say the organizers, maybe getting ahead of themselves a tad but we’re happy they’re excited, “and now the music of Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit will be celebrated in a special orchestral concert at Edinburgh Usher Hall.
The show, presented by Senbla by arrangement with Silva Screen Live, will be a celebration of the music from the most memorable moments from across the world’s of Middle-earth and the Seven Kingdoms…The stunning musical accompaniments will be performed live by a huge orchestra, creating an immersive live concert experience that is every bit as thrilling as the twists and turns in the world’s respective histories.
The bit about Edinburgh Usher Hall is the catch. This concert sounds terrific, but it’s only going down on Scotland. The first performance will be Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Thursday, June 11, with a show at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow the following day.
So the concert isn’t as accessible to fans around the world as we’d like it to be, but it still sounds like a great time for those who can attend.
If you’re interested, you can buy tickets to the event at Ulster Hall here; prices look pretty reasonable on the lower end. And here are some tickets for the concert at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
