Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon was one of the most anticipated shows of 2022, and is currently, a high-priority project at HBO. However, the prequel show, based on the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, wasn’t the only idea under development. There were several others, some of them have been scrapped, while there are others at various stages of development. However, the most recent one, a prequel series based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, hit a bit of a snag after the WGA strike.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ writers on strike

George R. R. Martin revealed on his blog Not A Blog, “The writer’s room on A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS: THE HEDGE KNIGHT has closed for the duration. Ira Parker and his incredible staff of young talents are on the picket lines.”

Martin also showed his support for the WGA strike.

Effects of the Writer’s Strike

Under the rules of the strike, the members of WGA have stopped their work on all projects that fall under the union’s jurisdiction. The production of a number of films and TV shows might be affected in the coming days and might even come to a halt following the strike.

What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight series about?

Martin went on to explain what the new Game of Thrones prequel is based on:

“Our premiere season will be an adaptation of the first of the three published novellas, “The Hedge Knight,” the tale of how Dunk & Egg first met during a tournament at Ashford Meadow. The pilot script is already written, and I think it’s terrific. It was written by Ira Parker, who is no stranger to Westeros. He was part of Ryan Condal’s writing staff for the first season of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, and wrote the fourth episode of Hot D’s first season, “King of the Narrow Sea.” That’s the one where Prince Daemon returns to King’s Landing after conquering the Stepstones, and takes Princess Rhaenyra down into the stews of Flea Bottom. Ryan Condal is on board as well, as an Executive Producer. So am I.”
