It’s been 615 days since HBO’s treasured “Game of Thrones” went off air. And super fans (and likely network execs) have been trying to fill that void ever since.

Luckily for “Thrones” fans, HBO is working on not one but two prequel series with author George R.R. Martin’s permission. The first, “House of the Dragon,” is well underway. Even fair-weather fans are well aware of this news, as a teaser for the new series that will focus on the Targaryen’s set the internet ablaze late last year.

But when news broke earlier this week that a second prequel was in early development, it was die-hard fans who had the most to rejoice over.

According to Variety, HBO is also in early development of a series based on Martin’s shorter fantasy novellas “The Tales of Dunk and Egg.”

Yes, you read that right. Dunk and Egg.

Little is known about the potential new series, and Variety explains that it still might not get the greenlight. But we do know that the lesser-known books follow the adventures of mismatched friends Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen about 90 years prior to the events in “Game of Thrones.”

Many readers love the novella trilogy, as they’re significantly shorter than Martin’s other novels and feature storylines that are a little more light-hearted with and a lot less characters to follow. Sounds like a recipe for a successful prequel to me.

Both prequels will present HBO with an opportunity to redeem itself after the terribly cheesy conclusion of the “Thrones” story arch. Many believed the divergent and disappointing storyline was caused by HBO rushing a finale before Martin had finished writing the novel series.

Den of Geek warns that a “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series could lead the network down a similar path, as Martin has yet to finalize the fate of good ole’ Dunk and Egg either.

Still, I would probably defy my inner instincts, look past the title and that God-awful finale, and watch anyway. But really, y’all: Dunk and Egg? Really?!
