This Is Going To Hurt, BBC’s long-awaited drama about a junior doctor’s experiences of working on the NHS frontline, starts tonight (February 8).

The new seven-part series follows Adam (played by Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning actor Ben Whishaw) as he works on a busy NHS labour ward.

The whole series is based on the real-life experiences of former NHS doctor Adam Kay, whose bestselling memoir, This Is Going To Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor was originally published in 2017.

Kay is also known as an established screenwriter, having co-created and written the 2015 BBC Three sitcom, Crims.

He has also worked as a writer and script editor for hit TV series including Mrs Brown’s Boys, Watson & Oliver and Very British Problems.
