A pivotal moment in Targaryen history was Aegon’s Conquest. Aegon I ascended to power with the ambition to unite the seven kingdoms. Consequently, he became the inaugural king of the unified realm and crafted the iconic Iron Throne. A Game of Thrones spinoff focusing on this era is currently in development, and the scriptwriting is progressing favorably.
Aegon’s Conquest writer spent a lot of time with George R. R. Martin
Mattson Tomlin is currently preparing the script for the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff about Aegon’s Conquest. Though much about the series is currently under wraps, Tomlin told Westerosies:
“It starts with what George has done. I’ve now gotten to spend quite a bit of time with him, and there have been a lot of pinch-me moments of just kind of going through fire and blood, highlighting passages, and asking him, What did this mean? What is this? What I think it is.”
Mattson Tomlin wants to respect Martin’s text
One of the main criticisms of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon was their straying away from Martin’s material. Tomlin assured this won’t be the case with Aegon’s Conquest. He said:
“For me, it’s about making sure that I respect George and I respect the text. And then also, it still has to be a dramatic story. Those characters have to go on a journey; they have to change; they have to go from a beginning to a middle to an end.”
