Aidan Gillen might be out of the show, but he’s still amped for the finale (picture: HBO)

Aidan Gillen may be out of Game of Thrones now after *spoiler alert* Littlefinger’s very timely demise, but the actor is still keen to check out the rest of the series as it draws to a close.

The 49-year-old is currently on screens as Dave Allen in Dave Allen at Peace but still has time for his old gig, as he shared his hopes for a ‘sensational’ final series of the HBO banger.

‘I’ll be excited to see the end of Game of Thrones, not sad,’ he said, according to Irish Indepedent.

‘It’ll probably be devastating. I hope so anyway.

Aidan Gillen hopes finale of Game of Thrones is 'devastating'

‘Although I’m not working on it any more, that’s beside the point – the experience will always be there. It’s spliced into my life.’

His hopes for the finale following his execution by Arya Stark come as another of the show’s stars Nathalie Emmanuel revealed the show will be ‘finished so beautifully’.

Confirming what show runner Francesca Orsi has previously suggested regarding the final table read, Nathalie told Metro.co.uk that that the final read was ‘so emotional’ before claiming that the final episode is ‘so great’ and will not leave fans unsatisfied.

‘It definitely will not be rushed conclusion,’ she added, discussing fan concerns that the length of season seven and then season eight will affect the storytelling.

‘They’ve taken the exact number of hours to tell the story they want to tell and it will be brilliant. [Show bosses] will never leave the fans unsatisfied, they won’t leave the fans left short, it will go over and above the fans expectations as they do every season.’

The final series of Game of Thrones will air next year.

  1. Clob : I don’t know why I haven’t thought about it before… or why I just did now, but I wonder how Tobias would have been as Baelish. After seeing how he played (Captain) Randall on Outlander I think he could have done the creepy, backstabbing, villainous, scheming Littlefinger pretty well.I’m certain I would have wanted him ‘gone’ just as badly as Aidan’s version. Sign me up for the reboot where Tobias Menzies plays Littlefinger.
