Alexander Skarsgård has officially joined HBO’s critically acclaimed drama Succession for its third season. The series follows the dysfunctional Roy family who own a global media and hospitality empire and are constantly fighting one another for complete control of the company as their father, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), grapples with declining health.
It’s all very Game of Thrones, complete with power dynamics, sibling rivalry, and the fight to be the one ruling over it all. Does it come as a surprise that as soon as Game of Thrones stopped being eligible for awards Succession won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series? I think not.
Variety reports that Skarsgård will be joining the series as Luke Matsson, “a successful, confrontational tech founder and CEO.” It sounds like he’ll right in with the Roy family, but will he be an ally or a rival?
When does Succession return on HBO?
Season 2 ended in a cliffhanger with Logan’s son Kendall (Jeremy Strong) finally retaliating against his father and the entire Roy family, possibly setting himself up to secure a spot for himself at the top of the pyramid. It was unexpected and glorious and means some incredible drama is on its way in the third season.
There will be more drama, backstabbing, unforeseen alliances, and a whole lot of tension as the Roy family turns on one another once again. Apart from the character description, it’s anybody’s guess how Alexander Skarsgård’s tech leader will play into it.
There’s no exact release date for Succession yet, but we’re crossing our fingers that it returns later this year.
