  1. The swords are quite historical, but being set in the mid 18th century, it has some mid to late 19th century cutlasses in it, very out of place, but at least real swords. And the difference between a cutlass and a hanger is non existent. Some say the cutlass didn't come in until the Napoleonic wars, with the hanger describing the 18th century version, but there's really no difference.

  2. Looking at the globe…
    Hanger – Captain Jack Sparrow
    Weird-hilted sword – Captain Barbossa
    Chinese sword – Mistress Ching
Tulwar – probably Ammand the Corsair's(wikia says he wields a sabre)
Cutlass with S-shaped hilt – probably Capitan Chevalle's
Cup-hilted rapier – probably Villanueva's(wikia says he wields a cutlass)
A Chinese-looking sword made in Singapore? – Captain Swann

What did Sri Sumbhajee & Gentleman Jocard use?

Also what about the Sword of Triton a.k.a. Blackbeard's sword? I think it's the most fantasy-esque sword in PotC film franchise

  3. As far as I understand the difference between a hanger and a cutlass is the guard.
Hangers have a knuckle bow where cutlasses have a bowl guard.
Hangers were more of a dress sword and carried as a side arm where cutlasses were not generally carried day to day but issued when required so comfort while carrying them wasn't an issue so they could have more hand protection.

  4. Actually in the fourth pirate movie includes a very loose depiction of Edward Teach better known as Blackbeard , King George II also appears in that film. of course Blackbeard died before King George II became king…but the inclusion of these two characters firmly puts the pirate of the Caribbean movies some time the 18th century.
