Rose Leslie has paved her way in showbiz.

From narrating BBC’s The British Slave Trade: Abolition, Parliament and People, to starring in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, it’s safe to say she has had a successful acting career.

But apart from on camera scenes, what do we know about the actress?

Brought up at Lickleyhead Castle in Aberdeenshire, Rose was born in Aberdeen in 1987.

Living at the castle until the age of 10, Lickleyhead is the Leslie family’s 15th-century ancestral seat!

Having been raised in a castle, it’s no surprise Rose is related to royal blood.

Born to Sebastian Arbuthnot-Leslie – the Clan Leslie’s Aberdeenshire Chieftain and Candida Mary Sibyl Weld Leslie of Clan Fraser of Lovat, Rose is related to King Charles II.

Simon Fraser, 13th Lord Lovat – her mother’s maternal great-grandfather, is a descendant of King Charles II.

The influential family connections doesn’t stop there.

Rose is also related to the 6th Prime Minister of New Zealand – her mother’s other great-grandfather was Frederick Weld.

We should probably also mention that Rose’s great-grandfather Guillermo Landa y Escandón was the mayor of Mexico City.

MP James Grimston, 3rd Earl of Verulam, Ambrose Lisle Marche Phillipps De Lisle and politician Charles March-Phillips are also notable mentions of Rose’s ancestors.

After studying at Rayne North School and Millfield, the actress enrolled in London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, studying there for three years.

Appearing in shows such as Luther, Downton Abbey, The Good fight, as well as films that include, Now Is Good and Honeymoon, Rose’s first on-screen moment was in the 2009 TV film New Town. She was 21-years-old and won the Scottish BAFTA for Best Acting Performance – New Talent Award.

In 2018, the actress married Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harington.

The pair’s characters were also romantic interests on the show.

Rose gave birth to their son in 2021.
