If you are closely following HBO’s latest hit The Last of Us, you will know that the game it has been adapted from does not shy away from queer romance. Ellie, portrayed by Game of Thrones alum Bella Ramsey, is a lesbian, and Bella herself is a nonbinary. The video game is a great example of how queer romance and love can be represented in a likable way, and the show has done a tremendously great job in honoring that legacy. However, some of the fans disliked the amount of emphasis given to these storylines, and Ramsey is quite clear about what she thinks about them.

In a recent interview with British GQ, Ramsey said, “I know people will think what they want to think. But they’re gonna have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character (referring to Lev, a character from the game who will later show up in the series) that’s on you, and you’re missing out.”
