  1. Another great explication, Kev. You gave me new sympathy for the character…up to a point. I felt a bit bad for him on my first read-through, but three things checked my sympathy. 1) He not only broke an oath, but he deserted the NW. Ned had executed Will/Gared and the poor man had been telling the VITAL TRUTH. 2) Any chain is only as stong as his weakest link. That applied to the NW at the best of times. But in Braavos, his desertion endangered others: Sam, Gilly, the baby, and Aemon were starving and Aemon likely dying, Dareon's desertion and keeping his money for his **frivolous**pleasures was utterly unforgivable. Had he given them his coins, called a healer, and sent them on their way while staying behind himself, that would have been a gray area. Instead, he was embodying the Darkness he had theoretically renounced. 3) Arya could not know the nuances you point out. But she was the living embodiment of Ned Stark and knew what he would have done, and did it. I was proud of her being so Starkish and thinking of right and wrong even while ostensibly denying her identity. I don't think that was crazy at all. Luckily, show Arya instead kills Meryn Trant who had killed a disarmed Syrio, and was clearly practicing paedophilia and sadism. Little did she know she was even avenging her own sister, who had been beaten and humiliated by this monster. Have a good holiday

  2. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year Kev, may all your problems vanish like night at dawn, you truly deserve that.

If everyone could be Lightbringer, everyone has the potential, who would it be. Lightbringer was forged 3 times, with increasing effort and more importantly, sacrifice. Maybe 3 people will try to destroy the Night King, but the first two will fail, and the last, informed of the prophecy of Lightbringer, will sacrifice the 'thing' he loves most to become Lightbringer, to be forged, to be worthy. Or perhaps not, perhaps we're all being fooled by GRRM and the ending will be neither bitter nor sweet. Perhaps all that has happened does not change the world, change humans and greed and lust. Perhaps it's a parallel with the Great War, the War to End All Wars, that ultimately, only ended the lives of many men, women and children who had nothing to do with the power plays of the rulers.

Thinking about this made me quite sad actually, so maybe I should brighten up the subject, and which blade could ever shine brighter than Dawn? Everything you said is really poetic and I wholeheartedly agree with everything, but I think it's a shame that this would destroy the Dawn Lightbringer theory we discussed before, I really liked the 'simple' symbolism, it just fits.

Anyway, as I said, Merry Christmas to you Kev, and to everyone reading this, and to everyone who doesn't, because all of the workd deserves a little happiness these days

  3. The whole swearing oaths of fealty thing shows what a classist system feudalism was & how entitled the ruling families felt that they could force you under penalty of death to sign a contract of service with them.

People entering service with little or no choice & making/taking vows that they then break or cant fullfill is a recurring theme throughout GOTS. Nights Watch, Kings Guard, Faceless Men, Arya with her list, Brienne,Jaime, Jon, The Pact, etc. Oaths & promises sworn & broken again & again & again. It's almost as if GRRM is suggesting that making or (holding another to) a lifetime commitment to a single cause or person is not realistically doable because people & circumstances change…

  4. I would tell you about the things
    They put me through
The pain I've been subjected to
But the lord himself would blush
The countless feasts laid at my feet
Forbidden fruits for me to eat
But i think your pulse would start to rush
Now I'm not looking for absolution
Forgiveness for the things i do
But before you come to any conclusions
    Try walking in my shoes
    Try walking in my shoes
    You'll stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments i kept
If you try walking in my shoes
If you try walking in my shoes
    Morality would frown upon
    Decency look down upon
The scapegoat fate's made of me
But i promise now, my judge and jurors
My intentions couldn't have been purer
My case is easy to see

    Depeche Mode

  5. Darren wasn't the first nor the last that separated panties from the girl just because he is a musician.

Also President Bill Clinton would refer to women he was attracted to as a fine young peach, no proof just a rumor that i have heard a few times from more than one radio personality.

  6. Haven't seen this yet, BUT TY!!!! I'M going to be be so annoyed if they take the lore of bygone days be LITERAL vs. Metaphors. I mean, Jon ( if he is the "Prince, and he IS Funky, when it comesFunk he is a Junky!"—– sorry. Long time Prince fan) where was I? Oh yes- the "flaming sword" "of PWWP/ LH"…f three Look, Dany has 3 DRAGONS ( words thspoiler avoided)…. And one "isn't feeling so HOT" ( YUK,YUK. See what I did there? )…. so even if s/he can only use 2 out of 3 DRAGONS they STILL gotta be bigger than flaming swords that you gotta murder your true love with in order for the sword to flame up.
Nisa-Nisa prophecy is hopefully a riddle more than a guide book.

GOTTA GO. HAVE MIGRAINE and a child I am home schooling right now as she just had surgery on BOTH legs!

  7. bridge4 What if lightbringer isn't a special sword but rather any Valerian sword with resurrection magic in this case blood of resurrected person. And the new hero is rather new heroes which I think with the highest probability of living through the final war with the others will be Jon, Sansa, Cersei, Jaime, Why you ask? Just to create a new power struggle in the world and give it a good "realistic" feel of continuation which I this GRR Martin will wrap up quickly giving us a overview of things that happened that led to modern society

  8. Another great video. I believe Lightbringer is a metaphor for Jon Snow. He is the child of ice and fire. Rhaegar could be Azor Ahai with his child being Lightbringer…Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen

  9. "How do you know the lannisters song "drunk lannisters "!!! By way kev how does patreon work is there a set amount how is it transactions ,bow often if you got a few mins hit me back man cheers
