With other spinoffs in development—House of the Dragon being the first to be confirmed—HBO is eager to explore Godswood and beyond. Nevertheless, a few of these branches were severed before they could fully mature into pilot episodes. After spending around $30 million to film the first episode, HBO decided to cancel the prequel series, titled Bloodmoon or The Long Night. A few more snaps from the shelved spinoff have recently come to light.
Bloodmoon’s makeup artist reveals never-before-seen pictures
Though it has been quite some time since the Game of Thrones prequel was scrapped off, leaks and theories about it still generate a lot of interest. Flora Moody, one of the Hair & Makeup Designers who worked on Bloodmoon, recently shared several photos of Actress Naomi Watts in costume. It seems like she was supposed to play a Lannister. Also, the prequel would have provided the first-ever on-screen depiction of Casterly Rock.
What was Bloodmoon about?
Helmed by Jane Goldman, the Game of Thrones prequel dubbed Bloodmoon starred prominent names like Naomi Watts, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, and Jamie Campbell Bower. It was one of the first prequels greenlit and then canceled by HBO. However, it had little to do with George R. R. Martin’s books. The official synopsis read:
“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history- to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend…it’s not the story we think we know.”
