Just last week, HBO announced the ‘Create for the Throne’ campaign. The network is charging 18 artists through the world with recreating and sprucing up iconic props from the show:
We’ve already seen artists give their takes on Daenerys’ dragon eggs and the skull of Balerion the Black Dread. Now, they’re rolling out props based on some of the memorable outfits worn by our favorite characters over the years. Let’s start with painter Magdalena Kaczan’s depiction of Sansa and her poison necklace from “The Lion and the Rose”:
Holy god, I love it. Sansa, her eyes hard and flinty, in the center of a whirlwind of deadly brambles, with bleeding lions in the corners and the thorny hand of Olenna Tyrell reaching out from the left side of the frame. Very creepy. “I was aiming to achieve a rather bright and vibrant color palette to emphasize the clash between the cheerful atmosphere of the scene and elements hidden in it that are dark and sinister,” said Kaczan, “like blood, tears, animal corpses, sharp teeth and a stealthy hand ready to deliver poison.”
Next up, admire digital artist Mike Wrobel’s rendering of Cersei Lannister with her tailor-made crown:
“Cersei lost everything to get where she is and rule as queen,” Wrobel said when discussing his inspiration for this pice. “She lost all of her children and the support from her brother. All the things that could give her some empathy are gone. She’s a strong, isolated and determined woman now. Nothing is stopping her.” There are a lot of ways that could go wrong. I hope we get to see all of them.
Head here to see more props, including sculptor Nicholas Brown’s bust of Daenerys Targaryen.
