Christina Ricci has joined the cast of The Matrix 4, which has been luring big names since the project was first announced. Collider was the first to report the news, and many Hollywood insiders were surprised how Warner Bros. revealed it. Instead of making a proper announcement, the studio quietly added Ricci’s name to an updated press kit, leaving the media to ferret out the information on its own.
Several members of the original franchise films are returning, including Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Ann Moss, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Daniel Bernhardt and Lambert Wilson. Ricci joins an esteemed cast of newcomers like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff and Jessica Henwick.
Though her character has not been announced, Ricci is known for embracing roles that step outside conventional bounds. She has experience with The Matrix 4 director Lana Wachowski after they worked together in 2008’s Speed Racer.
Christina Ricci joins an all-star cast in The Matrix 4
Ricci is known for The Addams Family, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and most recently Cinema Toast. She also had a fantastic turn as ax-murdering Lizzie Borden in Lifetime’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles.
Anything can happen in the digitized world of The Matrix, and there are lots of opportunities for an actor of Ricci’s talents to shine. With her ability to remain stoic no matter the circumstances, she’d make a terrific villain. And seeing her with some Carrie-Ann Moss moves in a fight scene would be amazing.
The Matrix 4 will roll out in both theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. The first three Matrix movies are currently available to stream on Peacock.
