Before we get to the headline of today’s post, we have another new Blu-ray review…

Dennis has taken a look at Michael Curtiz’s The Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) on disc from our friends at The Warner Archive Collection. Enjoy!

Now then, a while back here at The Bits I reviewed with great surprise HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season on 4K Ultra HD (you can find that here) and I was really taken aback by how good the upsampled image quality was. It was a genuine revelation.

But then, while HBO did release the final season of Game of Thrones on the format (day and date with the Blu-ray and DVD), that was it. No sign of further seasons in 4K whatsoever. Until now. [Read on here…]

Finally, we know what HBO has been up to.

Best Buy just briefly leaked a listing for HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Complete Series 4K Ultra HD box set. Street date was unlisted but the SRP was $209.99 and we know it will include Digital Copy codes. Just as quickly as the listing appeared, it disappeared again. But it’s obviously real and our hats off to the Bits readers who spotted it. (By the way, our friends at the German site 4Kfilme.de spotted it too.) Note that the cover art pictures above left is the Blu-ray art—the 4K packaging has yet to be revealed.

By the way, for those who might be thinking that $209.99 is a little high, HBO’s current Blu-ray Complete Series set retails for $179.96 on Amazon. And their Blu-ray set in super deluxe packaging is $194.99. So that seems like—I don’t want to say a reasonable price, but at least it’s commensurate with their existing pricing.

Naturally, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

We’ll certainly post details as soon as they come in. Stay tuned…!
