Game of Thrones is a show unlike anything that’s ever hit our television screens. The final season premiered this year and people are still talking about what went down. With a show as huge as Game of Thrones, there are bound to be some controversial opinions out there. Read on to learn about some of the best we found. There are spoilers ahead for the series.
Stannis Baratheon burning his own daughter is ‘in line with his character’
There are a number of heinous and brutal deaths in the hit series, but one comes to mind as one of the most terrible: when Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) burns his own daughter, Shireen (Kerry Ingram), at the stake. “I found Stannis’ burning of Shireen to be perfectly in line with his character,” a Reddit user wrote.
“I did too, but out of duty to the realm and not ambition,”
someone else agreed.
“I agree it didn’t ruin the character but it definitely left
a sour taste in my mouth,” a Reddit user added. “My first thought of him will
still always be the bad*** who led the charge at Blackwater.”
People really enjoyed Tywin Lannister
Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) was the merciless and fierce
head of the Lannisters until his untimely death at the hands of his own son. His
death seemed justified, but not everyone was happy with his departure from the
series.
“None of the remaining characters are nearly as interesting
as Tywin was :/,” a Reddit
user wrote at the time.
Other users agreed. “He was by far my favorite character in
the show,” someone else said.
“He seemed like the guy who held it together, had some ideas what to do,” another user added. “Was aware of the business side of things. But what are they doing now? they are all going to wars and raising armies, while people kinda … just there, doing their daily chores. We hear nothing of that. Tywin also had the best g******** voice on that show.”
The Wildlings have supporters too
The Wildings, or the people from North of the Wall, get a
bad wrap among the noble houses on the show. They are seen as trespassers but
it’s not all that difficult to find some sympathy for what they deal with on
GOT.
“I don’t get why the Wildlings get ragged on for raiding
that village, it was an act of war/strategy,” a Reddit
user explained. “That doesn’t necessarily excuse the atrocities, but it
doesn’t make them worse than any of the other houses South of the wall who
basically do this exact kind of thing. Hell, House Bolton is well known for
flaying people alive yet is still a respected house for the most part. We see
Stark men and Lannister men and all other ‘southerners’ raid villages, take
what they want, rape and kill woman etc and in those cases that is just
soldiers doing what they want. At least the Wildlings attacking Moles Town had
a purpose.”
Not all viewers were sad when the dragons died
A truly traumatizing part in the series is when Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) two dragons are killed. The dragons have a huge following and it was a sore spot for many viewers, but not all it seems felt the same way about the Mother of Dragon’s children. Viserion dies in season 7 and is resurrected as an ice dragon. Rhaegal is shot down in season 8 as well leaving only Drogon when it’s all over.
“I felt nothing when Viserion died,” a Reddit
user wrote.
Another agreed and at the time season 8 hadn’t been released
just yet. “Same hope they kill another (for good, no turning into a wight or
whatever) so the CGI budget can be spent on ghost,” someone else added.
