the one fictional thing about Stranger Things is that 011 has super powers and that the upside down is "reachable" to anyone by using those portals. a parallel reality is, literally, parallel. and something parallel to another comes side to side, but doesn't touch the other. so the fictional thing is that the normal reality and the upside down affect each other and are able to interact with each other.
