The CW has officially ordered a pilot for a new Batwoman series, and Game of Thrones director David Nutter has been tasked with leading the project. Ruby Rose is set to star in the new series as Batwoman. Her character was introduced in the latest Arrowverse crossover between Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.
According to IGN, Nutter and his team also released an official description of the new show, which offers a good idea about what to expect in the first season. The statement describe’s Kate Kane (Rose) as a lesbian crime fighter who is looking to keep the streets of Gotham safe.

“But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope,” the description reads.
Nutter, who won multiple awards for his work on HBO’s Game of Thrones, is directing the pilot and has gained a reputation for producing high quality episodes.
In fact, Nutter has worked on several pilots that have been picked up for full seasons. This includes Arrow, The Flash, Supernatural, Without a Trace, Smallville and The Mentalist.
Rumors of a Batwoman show first surfaced last summer. The reports were confirmed when Rose was announced as the lead just prior to the crossover event.
Although it was great to see Rose in action during the three-part crossover, producers of Gotham did not allow The CW to use a particular prop from its studio: the iconic bat-signal.

It is unclear why Gotham producers did not want to loan the prop to The CW, but it thankfully did not harm Rose’s introduction. Fans reacted positively to Rose’s portrayal of Batwoman, and with Nutter at the wheel, we’re sure the pilot won’t disappoint.
The CW has not announced when it plans on ordering a full season of Batwoman or when the series might premiere.

If it is picked up, this will be the first time Batwoman has been given her own show on the small screens. No pressure at all.
