News and rumors regarding Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon have been around for a while now. Fans have been hyped about the series ever since its announcement by HBO back in 2019. The Television network has now added to the hype by announcing the first confirmed cast for the series.

According to Deadline.com, Peaky Blinder’s star Paddy Considine is set to star as King Viserys Targaryen. Viserys was chosen by the Lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy.

After several rumors about casting for the show earlier this year, the first confirmed casting is welcome news for the Game of Thrones community all around the world. There were rumors about the casting of Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alicent Hightower, and Daemon Targaryen taking place at HBO headquarters.

Later in September, HBO president, Casey Bloys, settled the rumors by confirming the casting being done at the headquarters. The show is now scheduled to premiere in 2022, with casting currently under process and shooting to begin in 2021.

The show-runners are Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik (Emmy winner for the Battle of the Bastards episode) and Ryan Condal.
