David Harbour is very happy for his Stranger Things costar Noah Schnapp, who came out as gay on January 5 in a TikTok video.
Harbour talked about Schnapp while promoting his new movie We Have a Ghost.
“I’m always happy for people that are true to themselves and come out,” he told E! News. “That was terrific.”
Harbour isn’t the only Stranger Things star to lent his emotional support to Schnapp. Recently, Finn Wolfhard told GQ that he had a “big smile on my face” when he heard the news, and that he “was just really proud of him [Schnapp]” for coming out.
David Harbour and Finn Wolfhard share their support for Noah Schnapp
On January 5, Schnapp put up a TikTok video with the following caption: “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.’” In the video, Schnapp lip-syncs to an audio clip: “You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, will never be that serious.”
@noahschnappI guess I’m more similar to will than I thought
He went on to compare himself to his character Will on Stranger Things, who it was revealed was also gay in the most recent season. “I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” Schnapp wrote.
While his co-stars David Harbour and Finn Wolfhard had nothing but love for Schnapp and his character Will, fans have criticized the show for not revealing his sexuality sooner. Many felt it was always obvious and it felt silly to wait to reveal it towards the end of the show’s run.
Nonetheless, the series did a good job building up to this reveal. It was always hinted at, but Will needed time to get there and process his feelings.
We love to see that David Harbour and Finn Wolfhard are extremely supportive of Schnapp’s journey. As the series comes to an end next year with season 5, I’m going to miss seeing this group of folks and the love they have for one another.
