  1. e unibus pluram talks about a similar thing, but says a an uber sincere group of thinkers will come into being, and then be quickly laughed out of existence. But it makes me think of all the wholesomeness flying around the internet right now

  2. i almost never dislike videos but you couldnt even pretend to try to be cynical at the end… i listened, i waited for something like "if you feel like breaking a c note for something youll only wear less than half of the day, less than half a year… when you clicked on this video to be informed but i figured youre dumb as shit and want to buy sun glasses, randomly at 1 in the morning, then do i have a deal for you, for less than the amount of money off as you could find in a wal mart parking lot… sunglasses that cost more than a lot of prescription glasses"… shit… sell lootcrates bro.

  3. Don't buy fucking MVMT watches, for fucks sake. You're paying for a shitty $20 Chinese watch for 10x the price. Take it from a watch guy. At the price, I'd rather this video be sponsored by Seiko or Citizen even.

  4. I think there's a very good reason being "cynical" is (or at least has been) lobbed as a critique of character. A failing.
Going back to the first cynic, who apparently lived a pretty unpleasant life just to attempt to mock philosophers (apparently smarter than he) is pretty damning of cynicism. But add to it that it's basically become just another tool of advertisers (the weapon of our corporate masters) really illustrates the flaws in holding cynicism in any sort of adoring light.

Honestly, cynicism is just giving up while making sarcastic quips. So you can be mocked, bullied, oppressed, lose control of your own once-democratic government through non-participation, all while offering zero resistance to those who'd do to you as they please. Because you stand for nothing and cannot be united as a people. Yeah, I mean, why wouldn't corporations want to encourage the adoption of cynicism in the culture at large?

The last thing they want is to encourage sincerity and empathy and determination.

  5. I don't think cynical advertising sells perse, but I believe an advertisement acknowledging itself as an advertisement–a thing that no one wants to watch–is a good advertisement. I understand advertising pays the bills, but don't belittle my intelligence by acting as if my life would benefit ten fold from your product. Cynicism does play a role in modern advertising, but it is not ultimately the message.

  6. My first experience with this shit was way back years ago when the burger "king" with the creepy mask was a thing. A lot of my friends simply started choosing BK when they got fast food because their advertising was cynical and humorous.

  8. Deadpool is my favorite super hero he is the most relatable most realistic hero and I love the meta 4th wall breaks he does because let's face it superhero movies are overrated and predictable

  9. This is like a joke without a punchline. People mock consumerism, big deal. If the mockery does not emphasize caution in purchasing habits, then there is no point to it besides that extra layer of wool over one's eyes.

  10. Hey Jared,
I've had the Blade Runner quick take in my "watch later" list since it came out, and I'm going to watch it! I simply just want to watch the movie before I watch your video.
    Keep making awesome content!

  11. You seem to really hate Deadpool for some reason. Actually….. I know what that reason is. You don't understand the Character; nor do you understand the people making the Deadpool movies. Placing the Deadpool movies under Sloterdijk's banner of "Cynicism" in the sense of putting no heart into your work and only doing it for the paycheck is completely and utterly ridiculous — one only has to look at the literal decade of continuous struggle against the actual money-people, as well as the way the creators (and Ryan Reynolds in particular) talk about the Character, his place in Pop Culture, as well as his Comics to know for a fact that those guys come from just about as genuine place as possible in the movie industry.
Of course, you don't understand the Character himself either. In Marvel Comics, Deadpool is specifically given the role of being the voice of the fans. Or, in other words, the voice of the reader. It DOESN'T MATTER whether he effects change or is himself much different from what he criticizes; that isn't his role . His role is to see something being done to death, or just to observe current or past trends, and comment on it on behalf of the fans/readers/viewers. And the Deadpool movies capture that side of his Character perfectly .

  12. I was totally waiting for the ad spot at the end to be more Deadpool-like. "Blah blah blah fancy watches. Blah blah blah lots of money. Blah blah blah code wisecrack. Blah blah blah give me money." XD
