According to Variety, Disney may be thinking about developing an Indiana Jones series for its streaming service. Of course, nothing has been confirmed yet, but the prospect of it is exciting nonetheless.

Disney and Lucasfilm have reportedly been discussing the idea of giving the most famous archaeologist his own series, and I think that sounds awesome. Word is that both companies have been having meetings with writers recently. Since Indy’s small screen adventure is still in the very early stages, there are no plot details or synopsis available at this time.

If there is a series, the question remains: Is it a prequel or a spinoff? Will Harrison Ford be in it? We want to know all the things about this potential Indiana Jones series!

There may be an Indiana Jones series coming to Disney+

At this time, and given that no writers are officially attached to this project, there is no indication of when the series will take place. There are many ideas that Disney could play around with here, although if they go the prequel route it will be interesting to see how they work around the already existing The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles series which aired on ABC in the ’90s.

Whatever direction the studio takes this series, I’d love to see some tie-in to the film franchise, similar to what Marvel has done with its Disney+ shows and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That would be really, really awesome, wouldn’t it?

Interestingly, the idea behind an Indiana Jones series came when Harrison Ford announced that he would no longer be playing the character after the upcoming fifth film, coming out in 2023. With that in mind, Disney is looking into many different options, including a series, more films, or a mix of both. They could do a lot here! But as of now, there is no confirmation about any of this, especially since Lucasfilm declined to comment on the report.

Disney+ has stumbled across something very special with its ability to take large franchises and split the stories between television shows and movies. It is a genius way to continue telling the incredible stories, so many of us have followed since we were kids.

If they do manage to pull this off with Indiana Jones as well, the 5-year-old me will be jumping off the walls! This honestly couldn’t be better news — and I hope we’ll get some confirmation in the days and months to come!
