Game of Thrones is over now. The show made stars out of a lot of actors, but they arenât the only people that ended up making gold from the success of this show. Pretty much everybody involved with the show is now in some serious demand, and most of all, itâs the showrunners â David Benioff and Dan Weiss. The pair have now managed to snatch a giant deal with Netflix, which will be their new home. Read on!
Now, we all know about Netflix and how aggressively itâs trying to expand its content library by bringing in some big names. Their latest âacquisitionsâ are the creators of the Game of Thrones TV series, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who have signed a deal that is being said to be in the ballpark of $200 million. The pair said in a statement:
âWeâve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and weâre grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home. Over the past few months weâve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber. We remember the same shots from the same â80s movies; we love the same books; weâre excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and weâre honored they invited us to join them.â
Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos also released a statement:
âWe are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We canât wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.â
Other possible deals included big names like Amazon, and Disney, the latter of which already have a work arrangement with the pair, for the Star Wars franchise. With their first Star Wars film set for a 2022 release, it will be interesting to see when Benioff and Weiss get started with their work with Netflix. As far as HBO goes, the studio couldnât keep up with the offers but will credit the two as executive producers on any Game of Thrones prequels that appear in the future.
