True Detective season three’s release date may have given a clue as to when Game Of Thrones will return for its final season, via the art of HBO show bingo.

HBO recently announced True Detective will return on Sunday January 13, 2019 – starring Mahershala Ali and featuring eight episodes.

As Winter Is Coming points out, if the show takes no breaks over the eight weeks, this will mean True Detective’s finale will air on March 3.

Considering we know Game Of Thrones season eight will release in the ‘first half’ of 2019, could this mean a possible return date for the following Sunday, March 10?

Prior to season seven which broke tradition by releasing on 16 July, Game Of Thrones historically has consistently released in the month of April (season three released on 31 March, but don’t be picky).

If a return to traditional HBO scheduling is in the pipeline, could this mean another show will come first? The most obvious candidate is Big Little Lies season two, which has a vague 2019 launch following the release of season one back in February 19 2017.

So if Big Little Lies returns on Sunday March 10 for seven episodes, and assuming there’ll be no breaks, the finale will air on 21 April – lining up a Game Of Thrones return wonderfully for 28 April 2019.

So the focus is on March 10 or April 28 depending if Big Little Lies season two is sneaked out beforehand, which would probably make most sense in terms of anticipation levels.

Either way, the sooner Game Of Thrones will arrive the better – with the cast still dropping hints towards the finale in painfully limited detail.

Game Of Thrones season eight will return in 2019 (potentially 28 April).
