Donald Trump seriously riled the cast and crew of Game of Thrones when he posted a tweet inspired by the show.

The US president published a chilling message yesterday that said ‘Sanctions are coming. November 5,’ which not only made use of the same font from series, but also hijacked its iconic catchphrase ‘Winter is coming.’

Although they say imitation is the highest form of flattery, it didn’t take long for fan favourites from the HBO show to respond to the copycat and they lashed out on Twitter, with Maisie Williams taking the lead.

The 21-year-old star, who plays Arya Stark, hit back at the President’s tweet, writing ‘not today.’

Stark actress Sophie Tuner also got involved, simply adding: ‘Ew.’

Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin weighed in on the scandal and tweeted a message to Trump as well.

He also encouraged his 1.15million followers to go out and vote by setting his cover photo to the date of this month’s midterms with a slogan which said: ‘Fear cuts deeper than swords.’

Meanwhile, HBO issued a public statement, which read: ‘We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes.’

They also said: ‘How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?’ The shade.

Shortly before Trump posted the tweet, the official White House account explained what was going on, announcing: ‘President Donald Trump is re-imposing all sanctions lifted under the unacceptable Iran deal.

‘The U.S is re-imposing the toughest sanctions ever on Iran, targeting many of the corrupt regime’s critical sectors.’

And not long after the Game of Thrones-esque message was sent out by Trump, they added: ‘The United States has launched a campaign of economic pressure to deny the regime the funds it needs to advance its bloody agenda!’
