Ed Sheeran is admitting that the negative public reaction to his cameo on âGame Of Thronesâ in 2019 somewhat âmuddiedâ an otherwise positive experience.
The singer-songwriter dished about it Monday on Dax Shepardâs âArmchair Expertâ podcast and said he didnât expect such backlash.
âIt was great,â Sheeran said about his day on the set, but admitted, âI feel like peopleâs reaction to it sort of muddied my joy to it.â
The seventh-season cameo was actually intended to surprise cast member Maisie Williams, whom producers had planned to kill off later that season.
âI donât think they had written the ending yet. It was meant to be her last season, but it wasnât,â Sheeran said. âAnd as a surprise for her, [they got] me on. So, she was meant to turn up on set.â
Many fans were irked at how unsubtle (and arguably distracting) Sheeranâs cameo was, according to Decider, and there were rumors Sheeran deactivated his Twitter account â something he denied.
Sheeran told the podcast that he âpissed off a lot of people by being in that,â but admitted that heâd do it again.
âAnytime I meet someone that is like, âOh you cameoed on that show,â Iâm like, âWhat would you say?ââ he said. âEveryone would say yes. I was a fan of the show; they asked me to be in it. I didnât expect there to be that much backlash but I am definitely more careful when I am offered cameos now.â
Last week, Sheeran announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and will do interviews and performances from his house while he self-isolates.
