Emilia Clarke discusses blonde hair and her life after Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is a show that has enthralled us for years, and as it enters its final weeks of filming, after which the show will be done for good. As the production wraps up, we’re getting a lot of cast interviews discussing the end of the show, and Season 8. In one such interview, with The Age, Emilia Clarke, who plays the role of Daenerys Targaryen on the show, talked about finally dyeing her hair blonde, and life after Game of Thrones. Read on!

Now, as we know, while Daenerys Targaryen has silver blonde hair, Emilia is naturally a brunette. After seven years of wearing a wig, Emilia finally dyed her hair blonde. Speaking of why she finally decided to take the leap, she said:

“It was like, ‘Well, it’s now or never.’ So I did it and it’s cut [hair and makeup] time in the morning, so my 3am [wake-up] turned into 3.30am. I was like, ‘Why didn’t I do this eight years ago?’

It’s like you’re continually wearing an accessory. You’re like, ‘I don’t need to put jewellery on, I have bright blonde hair!’”

She spoke about how playing Khaleesi allowed her to be a strong woman herself:

“Khaleesi allowed me to be one, she allowed me to be one in my career at a young age, which is kind of unheard of – or at least it was.”

Game of Thrones has essentially shaved off a decade of her life, and now that the show is finally ending, Emilia has mellow plans for her life after the show:

“Ending Game of Thrones is ending 10 years of my life and that has been 10 years of blockbusters.

That’s what Game of Thrones is, it’s epic and it’s huge. My plan after this is to downscale.”
