What is the premise of ‘Last Christmas’?

The latest rom-com from Paul Feig, the film was written by Emma Thompson and Greg Wise. Clarke stars in the film with Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, and Thompson. According to its official description from Universal Pictures, the movie follows Kate (Clarke), who works as an elf at a year-round Christmas shop. A man who comes into her life, Tom (Golding) “seems to good to be true when he walks into her life and stars to see through so many of her barriers.”

Last Christmas features George Michael’s music, including the track that it takes its name from. It also has new, unreleased music from Michael.

How Emilia Clarke feels about people diving into the ‘Last Christmas’ twist

Clarke was pretty blunt about how she felt about people spoiling the movie so soon. She told Indiewire, “It’s bloody annoying. Frustrating. It’s more complicated than people are guessing.”

She also believes that the twist itself is more complicated than people are thinking. “Emma [Thompson] and Greg [Wise] wrote this script together, but they sent the script to all of their friends and it was only ready when their friends didn’t see the twist coming and couldn’t guess until it happens, so that’s where it comes from. It’s just frustrating.”

Emilia Clarke compares ‘Last Christmas’ spoilers to ‘Game of Thrones’ backlash

In the same interview she likened people thinking too much about the Last Christmas spoiler to the backlash from the final season of Game of Thrones. There was immense criticism surrounding the eighth season and fans started a petition for the cast and crew to redo it.

“I’m careful with what the way that I’m wording this, but it’s no surprise, it’s common knowledge that the state of our world at the moment is scared and confused and there’s a lot of stuff going on that’s completely out of our control. So when it comes to signing petitions to reshoot the last season of a very popular TV show, or whether it’s spoiling a godd**n Christmas rom-com, people are able to do something about that,” she said. “That’s something within their own control, unlike the rather turbulent political environment that we seem to be living in. Our world’s literally on fire, so I think that there’s a lot of things outside of people’s control, so when it comes to this kind of stuff, they can do something with it and want to. It’s done with so much fervor, it’s done with a huge amount of energy and all that is, is misdirected energy.”

Last Christmas is in theaters now.
