Emilia Clarke reveals ‘hell’ behind pivotal final Game of Thrones scene (Picture: HBO)

Emilia Clarke has revealed Game of Thrones bosses gave her one last hellish task before the end was done in Daenerys Targaryen’s final speech.

The 33-year-old spent 10 years reciting Dothraki during Game of Thrones but in one of her final scenes the monologue was so complex it ‘ate her up’. At one point, the star didn’t even think she could do it.

‘I knew that speech was going to be really important, and I spent a huge amount of time learning it. And for the first time in my whole Game of Thrones career, I got that word perfect,’ Emilia recalled in the Duty is the Death of Love featurette.

‘I’m being so brutally honest here – I was in hell learning that speech. This pretend language was literally eating me up. I couldn’t do it.’

Thankfully, ‘magic happened’.

‘I woke up in the morning, went on, and it all came out. I was probably fighting not what I was fighting, but what Dany was doing,’ she added.

During the documentary When Winter Falls, which goes behind-the-scenes of Game of Thrones’ biggest spectacle The Long Night, Emilia also revealed how the Battle of Winterfell was the catalyst for Dany’s rage and subsequent downfall.

‘In the actual battle itself, Dany’s impatient to get in there,’ she explained. ‘She’s like, gunning for a fight. She’s ready to take this guy down.

‘She’s a fierce warrior, although you don’t see a lot of hand-to-hand combat with her, she’s ready to fight to the death.’

The Last Christmas actress continued: ‘Especially at this point, there’s a lot of anger – she’s got all of that in her to put into this fight.

‘It’s not just the matter at hand, but I think because of everything at an emotional level that’s gone on, she’s able to go into her cold-blooded side.’

The full Game of Thrones collection was released this week and is packed with special features including a special reunion episode hosted by Conan O’Brien with tonnes of mind-blowing facts. Did you know The Hound actor Rory McCann was homeless before landing a part in the biggest show on TV?

Game Of Thrones: The Complete Series is available on Blu-ray and DVD now.
