Today, Disney released an official trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, a prequel film about the adventures of a young Han Solo. This came after it aired a brief teaser during the Super Bowl. While we’re excited to see Alden Ehrenreich attempt to fill Harrison Ford’s gigantic shoes as the smuggler with a heart of gold, we were thrilled to see Game of Thrones’ own Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) get so much screen time. Check out the trailer below:
Disney has been keeping a tight lid on things since Ron Howard took over directing duties from Phil Lord and Chrsitopher Miller, so there isn’t much official information on Clarke’s character. We do know that she’s playing the female lead and that her name is Qi’Ra.
The odds are good that Qi’Ra is playing Han’s love interest. And since she doesn’t appear in any of the original movies, it seems very possible that Qi’Ra will make like a Game of Thrones character and die. But we can’t know for sure.
Clarke is prominently featured throughout the trailer. She appears in the very beginning as she and Han escape from the Corellian police in a speeder.
Here she in Targaryen colors, complete with awesome cape. Behind her is L3-37, a sassy droid played Pheobe Waller-Bridge (Amazon’s Fleabag) through the magic of motion capture.
When she’s not busy as the Queen of Space, Qi’Ra can be seen aboard the Millennium Falcon with Han, Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and Chewie.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
You can see Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25.
As long as we’re talking about trailers, the one for the second season of Westworld is out:
Westworld season 2 premieres on April 22. It’s gonna be a big month for sci-fi/fantasy.
