Emilia Clarke fought back at Game of Thrones producers when they gave her feedback over Daenerys Targaryen.

The Mother of Dragons was Emilia’s ‘girl’ and she was not going to be told how to play her.

The 33-year-old starred as Dany for all eight seasons of Game of Thrones until her divisive death in the finale.

Her descent to the Mad Queen was a sore subject for fans of the fantasy epic, and Emilia has insisted she would often remind producers and directors that Dany was still human.

In a new book from Entertainment Weekly reporter James Hibberd, Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series, Emilia (via Winter Is Coming) recalled times when she felt the direction went too far.

‘There was a number of times I was like, “Why are you giving me that note?” While I am quite consistently a “How can I help?” kind of person, there were a few moments where I was like, “Don’t tell me what to do with my girl. I know what to do!”

‘It’s like Daenerys’s calling card became cold expressionlessness. I always wanted to infuse that with some humanity because no one’s consistently like that.

‘I would sometimes fight back a little: “I get that she has to be steely and unforgiving and a powerful force. But in this moment she’s also a goddam human being. So I’m going to give you that and I really pray that you take that in the edit.’

This isn’t the only time Emilia stood up to her co-stars during her Game of Thrones days.

Turns out the actress is very much the heroine in real life too as Nathalie Emmanuel recently recalled the moment Emilia shut down a male actor for remarking on one of Missandei’s outfits.

‘[Emilia] and I always looked out for each other. If you’re the only girls on a male-dominated set, it bonds you in a certain way,’ Nathalie told Vogue.co.uk.

‘For example, in my first season, my costume was pretty revealing, and there was an incident with a supporting actor who made a comment about it on set – I mean, typical – and Emilia straightaway had my back.

‘It got handled.’

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV.
