Now that Game of Thrones is finally done, fans are looking forward to the prequel(s) more than ever. But if you are looking for some hints in the original Game of Thrones series, you may be disappointed. Speaking to Digital Spy, prequel star Miranda Richardson stated that the prequel currently under production is going to be “totally different” from anything that has been done on Game of Thrones.

Several prequels to Game of Thrones based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world are currently under development. As of now, though, only the one written by Jane Goldman has been greenlit by HBO, of which Richardson is a part along with Naomi Watts, Jaime Campbell-Bower, and Josh Whitehouse.

Speaking of the yet-untitled show, Richardson said, “I have loved the storytelling in that series [Game of Thrones] and the wish and the will is to continue that, [but] with a totally different set of elements, [and] people.”

The Game of Thrones prequel may shed more light into the origin of the Night King and the White Walkers.

However, what remains unchanged is the top-notch production value that Game of Thrones brought to the table. In Richardson’s words, “The craftsmen are the same – there is a base team that is the same and their work has been phenomenal throughout. I’m just thrilled to be a part of it.”

The series explores a timeline almost a thousand years prior to the events depicted in Game of Thrones – more specifically the timeline of the original ‘Long Night’. The “different set of elements” hinted by Richardson could point at a better look at the White Walkers and the Night King, how and why they originated, and how they were contained the first time. We may even get to finally understand what those spiral patterns that the White Walkers make actually meant!
