It’s been years since Emilia Clarke wowed us as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, but memories of the dragon queen die hard. It doesn’t help that HBO is keeping awareness of all things Targaryen alive with its prequel series House of the Dragon, which stars a whole host of dragon-riding characters in platinum-blonde wigs, whereas Game of Thrones is was basically just Clarke bearing the torch.
That said, Clarke hasn’t watched the prequel show and doesn’t think she will. “It’s like if someone said to you, ‘Do you want to go back to your high school and watch them do stuff you did when you were at school?’” she explained to Extra. “It would just be so weird.”
That’s understandable, although Clarke does like that the show exists. “It is wonderful, I love seeing my wig on everyone’s head — it’s beautiful.”
Emilia Clarke hasn’t watched House of the Dragon: “It would just be so weird”
Hearing this, it’s probably safe to say that Clarke won’t be reprising her role as Daenerys on the Jon Snow sequel show? Kit Harington, who played Jon for years on Game of Thrones, came up with the idea and brought it to HBO, although we don’t know if it’ll actually happen or not.
It it does, Clarke likely won’t be involved, in part because she wants to move on and in part because…well, her character died at the end of the original show. And killed by Jon Snow, no less! “I wouldn’t be in it no, I don’t think so,” Clarke said. “He hasn’t called… ‘Bro, you are my neighbor okay… and you killed me, spoiler alert!’”
Kit, I love you! I’m going to watch that one because of you, or I am gonna tell you I did.
It’s the thought that counts.
Emilia Clarke excited to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Meanwhile, you can see Clarke in the Marvel series Secret Invasion, which premieres on Disney+ on June 21. Clarke plays a Skrull alien named G’iah, whom Clarke described as “an access point for the audience.”
She’s a young woman on a journey finding herself… but understanding [her] own strengths and [her] own individual sense of self.
Clarke will be acting alongside some talented heavyweights, including Samuel L. Jackson and Oscar winner Olivia Colman. “It’s been incredible,” Clarke said. “They had me at Olivia Colman. I was like, ‘Yes, yes’… You watch Marvel and you know the pedigree and you understand it, but when you’re in it, it’s just something else entirely and it was truly a privilege and a dream.”
