It’s award season, and while my sincerest congratulations go out to all the nominees, everyone’s getting it wrong. And by that I mean that Paddy Considine, who played the doomed King Viserys I Targaryen on House of the Dragon, is getting snubbed left and right!
This monkey business began the other week when the nominations for this year’s Critics Choice Awards were announced. Matt Smith and Milly Alcock were nominated as Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively for their performances as Daemon Targaryen and Young Rhaenrya Targaryen, but Considine’s name was nowhere to be seen.
The injustice continues today, as Considine wasn’t among the people announced as nominees for the Golden Globes. The man fell apart onscreen for you people! You give him a little golden statue!
Emma D’Arcy nominated for Best Actress Golden Globe
Now that I’ve thoroughly buried the lede, there was some good news for House of the Dragon fans: Emma D’Arcy, who plays Adult Rhaenyra Targaryen, is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama alongside the likes of Laura Linney (Ozark), Imelda Staunton (The Crown), Hilary Swank (Alaska Daily) and Zendaya (Euphoria). And House of the Dragon itself is nominated for Best Drama Series.
And all that is great, but I’m still seething that Considine isn’t getting the respect that he’s entitled to. D’Arcy may or may not win this year, but they’ll have other chances to score awards for their performance in future seasons. King Viserys is dead, so this is Considine’s only chance to pick up some hardware for his performance, which I definitely think was among the best of the year on TV. Emmys, don’t let me down…
