Peter Dinklage faces criticism for comments about the seven dwarves

Disney’s Snow White | Teaser Trailer | In Theaters March 21

Peter Dinklage, famous for his role in Game of Thrones, faced backlash for his past comments about the seven dwarves in Snow White. Dinklage was upset at Disney’s claims of being progressive by casting a Latina actress (Rachel Zegler) while still telling a story about dwarves living in a cave. Speaking on a podcast with Marc Maron, Dinklage had said:

“I was a little taken aback by [the fact] they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. You’re progressive in one way but you’re still making that f**king backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave. What the f**k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough. They were so proud of that, and all love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing but I’m just like, ‘What are you doing?’”

His remarks led the showrunners to replace the dwarves with CGI characters in the remake. This decision has upset many fans, particularly within the dwarf community, who felt that the movie could have created opportunities for dwarf actors. Some critics accused Dinklage of ruining potential careers for these actors.
