  2. Last tirade:
The main problem I had with the first film was that the beasts really did distract from the overall tone and pacing and everything. The scenes involving them would lighten the tone far too much considering the story and it didn't feel natural with the rest of the story, they JUST BARELY made it feel a bit more integral to he story. But I really hope the beasts are improved upon, more organically incorporated, and show up much, much less here.
If the film takes the same piecemeal approach to the beasts like they did in the first film, outright stopping the narrative to focus on them, it will be a relative critical unsuccess and it won't be good for this story.
They play a relatively insignificant part of the first film's plot, and the fact that beasts that show up on screen for literally 5 minutes are monopolizing attention and shaping how people feel about the plot and the film overall, is dangerous.
You can't try to tell a story about a war with Grindelwald and constantly distract people from the war with Grindelwald.

  3. Not to mention, the first film DOESN'T include a lot of Beasts scenes outside of a few notable set pieces in the first couple acts of the film, and the animals themselves aren't an active part of the plot.
They serve as a cover for the Grindelwald storyline and the hunt for the obscurus, which drives the plot of the film.
That's why the creatures really serve as nothing but distractions in the storyline. They don't mean anything. They're silly and childish.
