David Fincher’s “Fight Club” has grown from an underrated gem, this video essays takes a look at the sound design that helped this film become a cult classic, to eventually being widely accepted as one of the best films of all time. I shine a light on the sound design of Ren Klyce and Richard Hymns, specifically in the film’s fight scenes, and (hopefully) give a better idea of why it’s so important in a film, and the role it played in cementing the films status as one of the greatest of all time.

Mmhm. ;D As a music nerd this was always a favorite thing of mine to do in my own mediocre way. (AKA: not with the budget nor the equipment/people) But its funny since I haven't watched any "cult classics" until recently. Ya'll gotta watch out for my films in the future!!! Hopefully ONE day….finishing up dental school this year and then gotta work on the craft more, prove myself, work my ass off…and get to where my vision will be with many others. I got the sounds and what not…just gotta do everything else somehow! Haha : D But I made a fight club "music video" in kinda celebration of it!!! It's on my channel if theres any fans (or you, film radar) that would like to check it out! 😀
Makes video about sound design, doesn't use de-esser on the voice over.
So gooood
This video sabotages itself by blocking out much of the sound discussed with wall to wall narration. Shut up occasionally so we can hear.
Yes! Fight Club is the film that made me decide I wanted a career in film sound and helped me get there. The BG design is also brilliant.
awesome job If you need any free music for your content, come glance through the playlist's i have, i think they would really imrpove your stuff!
This channel found me at a very strange time in my life.
This channel will explode,Remember my words 🙂
I've never actually seen a video on sound design, and I'm so bummed that I haven't – because this was so interesting!
Your videos are top notch and you definitely deserve more subscribers.

How did you get away with using the Pixies song at the end?
I'm not caught up with copyright law
Can you actually talk and not do that annoying whisper shit?

DUST BROTHERS
Great video, thanks for the other links too!
I love sound design and has done for years ever since I watched the behind the scenes for lord of the rings.
I think the music is the most important to me besides the main plot.
like how i loved to watch music videos on MTV as a child.
Really nice to get a view of this world though, i had no idea. fukin chicken and valnuts lol.
Please work on the vocal fry…….
Where is that choir music at 6:15 from? It sounds so nice!
You don't talk about fight club
Are you Nerdwriter1?
Welp, I subscribed. I'm glad to be part of the "Before 100,000 club."
Great job! And best ending scene in movie history 🙂
I think same goes for the score of 'Social network'. When I found out that it was nominated for Oscar in soundtrack category, I was surprised since I barely could recall even the main theme. But that's how you tell it was good.
I feel like a jerk for not appreciating sound more, but will now. Great video, thanks for sharing.
hey where can i get those sound edits plssss help me
hi, i don't know if it's just my copy of the film, or is fight club has this continuous noise such as clicks, and "one-note" sound from the beginning to end excepet the credits and ending? can anyone confirm this? is it intentional?
what a great video! a long time ago I saw some special on foley artists and have always been mesmerized by the magic they perform. the creativity required to represent a sound with something totally different is amazing. There's also an SNL skit with ben stiller (I think) where they mock foley artists and it's pretty funny too 🙂 great video
I'm discovering new movie analysis channels every week. The oly videos i look forward to in youtube. Great work. Keep it up.
