They may have come away from the Golden Globes empty handed but HBO still made an impact during the live telecast in Los Angeles on Monday.
The television network took the chance to showcase their line-up for 2019 – their existing and new shows – and the sneak peek had their fans excited.
The clip that got the most attention was the preview for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, which will return in April.
The first glimpse told fans to expect another thrilling and suspenseful season. The clip showed Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) arriving in Winterfell and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) pledging her kingdom to the queen’s cause.

The preview package also introduced Meryl Streep to the cast of another hit, Big Little Lies, which is already filled with A-listers including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz. The main actresses are seen standing in what appears to be a police lineup, so expect another mystery to be solved, just like in the first season.
The new kid on the block is the television adaptation of Watchmen, a dark superhero tale that was a film directed by Zack Snyder in 2009 and adapted from a popular Alan Moore graphic novel. While the first look showed several masked characters and much else, it appears to be a visually stylised show.
Other shows in the line-up was the new season of Veep and a glimpse of a regal Helen Mirren in the upcoming Catherine the Great.
