If regular Fortnite wasn’t exciting enough for you, you now have the opportunity to play Fortnite while also taking the black.
While Fortnite is known for its battle royale gameplay, Fortnite also has a mode called Creative where players are given infinite materials to build the Fortnite world of their dreams. The community has taken full advantage, building everything from racetracks to trap-filled torture towers.
While some creative Fortnite masterminds take pleasure in frustrating as many people as possible by building nearly impossible obstacle courses, others like Redditor Assasin-of-Eire have dedicated their talents to more honorable pursuits — namely recreating Castle Black from the TV show Game of Thrones in mind-blowing detail.
[No Spoilers] I fully recreated Castle Black & the Wall in Fortnite’s new creative mode….. I tried to be as authentic as possible. And so my watch begins… (Watch with sound on) from r/gameofthrones
From the video Assasin-of-Eire posted on Reddit, it’s immediately obvious that this build isn’t of shoddy, panicked-wood-ramp-building caliber. This is a carefully planned and proportioned recreation of the home of the Night’s Watch, and what truly sells it are the purposeful details that Assasin-of-Eire has included: the wagon-full of barrels in the yard, the ropes hanging from the top of the lift, the fiery wall sconces lining the walkway atop the Wall. What Assasin-of-Eire has created is nothing short of incredible. However, what you see in the video is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this Fortnite Castle Black.
“The interiors are also fully decorated and thought out,” Assasin-of-Eire explains in a later Reddit post, and accompanies it with a link to this gallery of interior screenshots. “I researched certain buildings and their locations and tried to get it as close as possible. There are spots from Castle Black like the Lord Commander’s Quarters, the Great Hall, the Top of the Wall, the Gate through the Wall, the Maester’s Library, and the Guest Quarters.”
Indeed, all of the interiors look straight out of the show, or at least as close to the show as Fortnite‘s cartoony style will allow. The Great Hall is furnished with long dining tables in rows, complete with one head table at the front. The cellars are stocked with crates and barrels. The Lord Commander’s Quarters contains bookshelves and a round meeting table. Assasin-of-Eire has even included the dungeons of Castle Black, fit to imprison any Wildling or annoying Bright Bomber.
As for how Assasin-of-Eire was able to include the Wall itself into the build, a pre-existing wall-like portion of Fortnite‘s arctic island served as the Wall stand-in. Using an existing portion of the game map did present Assasin-of-Eire with a challenge, however, since it limited the space available for the actual castle. The Redditor also mentioned that limited building pieces hindered the authenticity of the construction. But these challenges only amplify the astounding feat that Assasin-of-Eire was able to accomplish within the restrictions of Fortnite‘s Creative mode.
If you play Fortnite, you have the means to take a more up-close-and-personal look at Castle Black by using following code in Creative mode: 4484-1802-8529. Do a jig in the Lord Commander’s room or shoot a crossbow off the top of the Wall. By all means, take advantage of the tremendous opportunity Assasin-of-Eire’s hard work has given you.
One can only hope that Epic Games will include this amazing creation into the official game one day.
