Ex-England cricket star Freddie Flintoff has announced his intention to do more acting – and his dream role is in HBO drama Game Of Thrones.
Desperate for new challenges, the TV personality has been taking acting lessons for two years now and has set his sights on starring in the world’s biggest series.
‘An ambition is to do more acting. Especially more hard-hitting drama,’ Flintoff told the Daily Star. ‘My dream role would probably be in Game Of Thrones.’
He continued: ‘I would love to play someone from The North – something like Ned Stark’s long-lost son.’
Now, we’re no casting agent, but wouldn’t Freddie be a bit tall for the Stark clan?
However, it’s not the the Ashes-winner’s first brush with the small screen. Fred has built a successful TV career thanks to panel shows like League Of Their Own.
So maybe we should take him more seriously.
Recently, he appeared in BBC’s Love Lies & Records and said he ‘got down to the last few for the Prime Suspect prequel Tennison.’
Beyond that, Freddie also tours with Fat Friends The Musical and is currently presenting new Sky show Carnage, which he describes as ‘Mad Max meets Robot Wars’.
‘The acting lessons have helped all parts of my career including the presenting,’ said the 40-year-old. ‘Doing Fat Friends has also taught me a lot. The stage is certainly a lonely place if you mess up or forget your lines.’
Better do your homework then, Freddie!
The former sports star’s comments come after ITV axed his new game show Cannonball after only one series.
Filmed in Malta, the programme pitted contestants against each other in elaborate ‘active’ challenges.
It was fronted by Flintoff and Maya Jama, but proved too costly and ‘didn’t resonate with audiences’.
A spokesperson for ITV told The Sun: ‘The show looked great and was ambitious in scale but just didn’t quite resonate with our audience so we’ve put it on hold.
‘We thank everyone involved.’
