  1. To all the people complaining about Cersei wearing black and relatively less lavish clothing, she has to! Never in history has it been appropriate for a queen to wear anything but black before at least a year of mourning has passed. Also, she's ruthless and dead inside now, so she went full military goth, I love it. I'd complain more about Dany wearing black, why? I don't see a reason why she should wear black only.
On a side note, I found this channel like 3 days ago and I've been binge-watching all the videos non-stop, I'm obsessed! The quality of your content is wonderful!

  2. I think its natural that some clothing ideas, like the cut leather, should be repeated until they become boring. That seems more natural to me, for the environment and cultures shown. If Euron wanted to impress Cersai, of course he would dress in the manner of Casterly rock. Cersai dresses in the manner of Tywin. I don't believe for a minute that Tywin bothered himself inventing new clothing, he adopted his look from existing styles.

  3. I love all your videos! I'd love if you made a video about the costumes of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette and James' Cameron's Titanic. The costumes in those movies are gorgeous and they did win Oscars! 😀

  4. I'm so happy I discovered your channel! Could you do a video on Burton's Alice in Wonderland? The movie isn't that good, but I still watch it over and over again for the costumes…

  5. Is there a Tyrion video in the future? Also, maybe we will see a color reversal if the Dany's crew starts wearing the Targaryen red! For this episode I think the idea was to hearken back to her Targaryen roots, which we haven't really seen on camera so far. Plus, the hexagonal cutout for Missandei's outfit matches the floor pattern of the Dragonstone throne room, referencing the giant's causeway formation and complementing the strong rock theme of the castle itself. Finally, I think Euron's star-cut design may have been custom-made to match Cersei's coronation gown.

  6. I actually really liked Euron's outfit, he's suppose to be courting a Queen to it makes sense to me he'd get all dressed up. Plus, I appreciated they got much closer to book Euron, last season he was such a yawn.

  7. I'm fairly new to your channel and I've been obsessed with it, binge watching your videos in my spare time. I have to say it's truly amazing how much work and research you put in each video, and it's compelling to watch and learn through them. As someone who has been fascinated by period clothes / costumes since childhood, I find myself lost in the little details I discover thanks to you. Kudos!
Do you have plans to review more shows/movie? I've always wondered about the costumes behind tv shows like Outlander and especially The Musketeers or movies like Moulin Rouge, and the various adaptations of Anne Boleyn's story in movies and tv shows.
But most importantly, do you have any book recommendations to learn more about period clothing?

  8. Loved this list & THE NEW GRAPHICS! Such a great episode as always. 100% agree with you on euron! And also about the black & silver colour scheme… it's tooooo much. Daenerys' costume on screen was stunning though, the red crystals!!!!!!! Great Work on this!!! From Caesar 😀

  9. I feel like I'm the only one who like Euron Greyjoy's season seven premier outfit. It made me feel like he was a pirate, which is what the Greyjoys basically are. It also shows he's been out on sea for a very long time, seeing that he had to sail from one side of Westeros to the other. I could almost smell the sea water on him thanks to the outfit.

  10. Yes, I also think there is a black overload in the custume design this season. However, I think there are a number of reason for that:

    a) There are many characters morning their loved ones and/or have experienced great loses in the past seasons,
    b) Back and grey are their houses' colors or their region usually wear dark colors
    c) It is the simbol of Jon's warning: under the thread of the Night King, banners and Houses' color don't matter, they must to give up their differences and fight for their lifes as one army against the army of death… curiously, using the distintive black clothes of the nightwatch

  11. I really enjoyed your costume commentary, thanks. The costumes were one of the elements of GoT that drew me in and led me to become a fan (and study costume design!) – contrasting locations, character definition, weaving workshop and armoury etc. I agree that it is a bit dull and samey now that everyone wears serious dark colours, and I wish the production team had picked up on this before signing off the designs.
I wonder if, when the big showdown comes, we will get a reversal of the stereotype and the goodies will be in black, the baddies all white?

  12. Just wanted to say – I really enjoy your unique GOT content. I'm not really knowledgeable about costuming, fabrics, etc, but I really like learning from your commentary. I'm also kind of over the all-black costumes and don't think the palette needed to necessarily go this dark. Last season, Melisandre's dark red gown often appeared black on camera because of the lighting/filters/whatever. I liked that, and think they could have gone that direction with other characters' wardrobes this season. Cersei was particularly disappointing – she's been in mourning a long time, her dialogue in the 1st ep makes it plain that her kids are dead and she's moved on (which is ice cold, but ok), and clearly optics are not a concern for her. The hair is really bad, too. Surely they could have done something – Cersei thinks she is a badass "Tywin with teats," but she also thinks she's the most beautiful woman in Westeros, and this look simply does not compute. I agree Dany & crew could have had some dark red embellishments at the least. I guess I'll reserve judgment on Euron for now, because show-Euron doesn't seem remotely the same as Book-Euron and I don't yet know where this character/plot is going.

  13. I'm really disappointed with the costumes of the first episode, I hope next week will be better. Euron seemed so anachronistic for me, completely destroyed the scene in the with Cersei for me. Cersei ditched the Lannister colour scheme for black and it looks like she just changed a few outfits from her father. She is so proud of her house and her dynasty, why not at least go with a golden crown? The crown and the wig are also a bit awkward.
Danys look is okay, even if I would have liked a bit more red, I didn't see some of the great details of her dress at first. By the way, I'm very sorry but Greyworm looked like a cliché bdsm model, maybe a bit too much leather?
The Starks looked best in my opinion, I liked both outfits. It would be interesting if the could incorporate lighter grey or even white. I loved Salsas second wedding dress and loved seeing her in such a colour, even if the dress only brings bad memories for her.
I agree with you, hopefully Michelle Clapton tones down the leather for next season.
