Actor Iwan Rheon played one of the most evil & hated characters on Game of Thrones, Ramsay Bolton. Bolton was an enemy of the protagonists of the series, the Starks. A power-hungry character who killed anyone who challenged his rule, he notably tortured Stark ally Theon Greyjoy so badly, Greyjoy became a shell of who he was.

Iwan Rheon was so convincing as Ramsay Bolton, he gave us chills when we saw him on screen! However, as great as Rheon is at portraying an evil character, there is one scene in Game of Thrones that even disturbed him while filming it. Here’s more information on the extremely uncomfortable scene Rheon could barely film.
Sansa and Ramsay’s sex scene
Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) became a favorite for many Game of Thrones fans. After Sansa is basically forced to marry Ramsay, Ramsay finishes their wedding night by raping Sansa. Many fans found this scene to be excessive and the cast seems to agree.
In an interview with Metro, Rheon revealed his feelings for filming the scene, calling the day they shot it a low point in his career.
“That was horrible – nobody wanted to be there. Nobody wants to do that, but if it’s telling a story then you have to tell it truthfully,” he told Metro. “They didn’t sensationalize it or anything… [but] it was very, very hard watching. It’s a horrible thing that happens, unfortunately, and it shouldn’t be.”
Worst day effects
Iwan Rheon also added it was the “worst day” of his career, even worse than filming Ramsay’s extended torture of Theon. While comparing the attack on Sansa versus Theon’s torture, Rheon explained the use of prosthetic and CGI served as barriers to the more grisly & violent moments audiences saw on screen.
“Chopping someone’s finger off you don’t really see it, and when you’re doing like a close-up, it’s a piece of plastic. We’re just acting, it’s not real,” Rheon said. “Then something like that where you’re in the actual reality of the situation is very difficult to deal with. It was a horrible, horrible day.”
Fortunately, Sansa takes her revenge on Ramsay by turning his own hungry dogs on him after she & her brother, Jon Snow, win back their home Winterfell. For Game of Thrones fans, it was sweet compensation for having to sit through the earlier rape scene.
Arya’s first time
Iwan Rheon commented on his Game of Thrones sex scene right after Joe Dempsie, who played Gendry, admitted his sex scene with Arya actress Maisie Williams made him feel uncomfortable. Season 8 of Game of Thrones has plenty of controversial moments, leaving fans divided on whether it was a fitting conclusion as a whole.
In one scene, Arya asks Gendry to have sex with her before the inevitable battle against the white walkers. Arya doesn’t want to die a virgin in the battle, so the scene commenced. Many fans felt uncomfortable watching Arya stripping down since they watched Arya grow up during the eight seasons of the show.
Dempsie revealed that when he first found out about this scene, he had mixed feelings, largely due to watching Maisie grow up on set. In season one, Williams was twelve years old, and given the cast’s close bond, this made the scene uncomfortable.
Dempsie and Williams’ growing friendship
“It was an odd transition purely because I’d seen Maisie grow up – I’d met her when she was a child and, during the course of the first three seasons, it was something I was asked regularly because [the Game of Thrones] books suggest there’s a possible romance,” Dempsie told The Independent.
“It always made me slightly uncomfortable,” Dempsie added. “I know we were recreating fantasy, but we as actors have to make it very much in reality, and they were asking me to comment on whether I – at the time, a 25-year-old man – would like my character to hook up with a 14-year-old….I always avoided answering the questions. But it was something I then had to think about.”
When the scene first aired, Sophie Turner, Williams’s costar, posted a video of her drinking wine and celebrating the scene between Gendry & Arya.

Game of Thrones is filled with plenty of sex scenes that would have made any actor or actress uncomfortable while filming it. The actors & actresses should be praised for committing to these scenes and making them mostly work.
